The Beating Heart of the Maker’s House

Year of Service (Tzabar 2.0)

An annual training program for high school graduates who have chosen to dedicate a year prior to their military service to social action for Israeli society. The Year of Service consists of Hebrew agricultural work, mentoring at-risk youth and individuals with special needs, a personal development process, communal living, lectures, and encounters with a variety of unique people in Israeli society, along with tours to explore the country.

Vision and Values

01

Skill Acquisition

Imparting knowledge and skills to expand personal capabilities is the foundation for building self-confidence and resilience in youth. Activities are led by Year of Service volunteers and professional mentors.

02

Creating Curiosity

How do you build a ship? You gather people and plant in them a love and longing for the wide, great, and infinite sea, rather than telling them to collect wood and build a ship.

03

Teamwork

Imparting technical skills and the ability to work in a group—the ability to see the whole while simultaneously standing your own ground—is a central pillar of the activity at the Maker’s House.

04

"Love Thy Neighbor"

Jewish and Israeli education for helping others is the central component of activities with youth. Through this, social values such as social solidarity and Zionism are put into practice.

They require a unique, personal response to feel they can successfully integrate into society. The encounter with these special populations is moving and empowers us anew each time through the authentic love we receive from them.
A significant part of their journey at the Maker’s House involves learning vocational skills and forming meaningful social bonds with Year of Service volunteers. These experiences strengthen their sense of self-efficacy and mental resilience.

Children, Youth and Adults who face a range of cognitive and emotional difficulties, experience difficulty integrating into the normal and unformal frameworks offered to them and need a more unique and personal response to feel they are able to fit in with the company. The meeting with the special populations is exciting and reinforce authenticly and with love we are at the creator’s house receive from them.

The events of October 7th and the "Iron Swords" war created complex challenges for evacuees, soldiers, and their families dealing with trauma and combat. The Maker’s House provides a pastoral, green space for healing through hands-on creation and construction. Our current programs include processing combat experiences for individuals and teams, specialized support for families separated by the war, and group retreats held in our workshops and yurt to foster recovery and resilience.

The "Activists' Squad" is composed of third-age volunteers from local communities who come to us weekly for joint creation on projects for the community and for the residents of the Gaza envelope.

Additionally, many volunteers—skilled professionals—dedicate their time to mentoring and training the Year of Service volunteers in all aspects of professional workshop leadership.
